Boating Industry Association of WA

BIAWA

The BIAWA is the voice of the West Australian recreational boating industry. Our main purpose is to promote and encourage safe boating and other aquatic sports & pastimes within the State.

The Boating Industry Association of WA (Inc) is an incorporated industry group first formed in 1971 to benefit the recreational boating industry, retail consumers and the boating public. The BIAWA is itself a member of the Boating Industry of Australia (BIA), which is affiliated with the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA).

The BIAWA provides a forum to discuss industry needs and serves as a respected industry point of contact for government, media organisations and members of the public. We are also continually (and often successfully) campaigning for new and improved boating facilities throughout WA to cater for the ever‐growing needs of the state’s boat owners. In addition, the BIAWA provides a high-quality program of professional development for its members.

BIAWA members are from all sectors of the recreational boating & light commercial marine industries. Our membership includes manufacturers and retailers, brokers, importers and exporters, distributors/wholesalers, shipwrights/boat builders, mechanical repairers, boat lifters, yacht clubs, community organisations, financial & insurance providers and a range of other product & service providers for boating, fishing & aquatic sports.

Many of our members have been in the in the industry for many years and have developed an in-depth knowledge of the industry, as well of their own products or services.

The BIAWA's objectives are to:

  • Increase recreational boat ownership and use in Western Australia through the development of the marine industry and the promotion of recreational boating

  • Promote recreational boating as a safe, environmentally friendly and responsible leisure pastime for West Australians

  • Promote ongoing and enduring improvements to safety, training, facilities and legislation relevant to the industry, with a focus on self-regulation

  • Work with appropriate organisations and authorities to address issues related to the environment, boating safety, waterways infrastructure, access to waterways and related public facilities

  • Conduct a state-wide program of boat shows to promote wider awareness of the industry both internally and externally
